RAASC (Rape and Abuse Support Centre Southland Inc) is a non discriminatory, non judgemental, confidential and free service, offering support, counselling information, advice and education to survivors of rape and sexual violence regardless of your circumstances or how long ago the abuse took place.
Raasc is focused on working towards the elimination of all forms of violence against women, children and their families/whanau and include males in our services.
We know it is hard to make the first step, so welcome to our website, we hope it will help you. Personal support is as easy as an email or phone call.
Our Services
Cultural Sensitivity
We uphold the treaty of Waitangi, offering a bi-cultural foundation with a multi cultural focus that provides support, advocacy, counselling and education.
Counselling
We offer free counselling that is culturally appropriate. Our counsellors are highly qualified professionals specialised in working with survivors of abuse.
Advocacy
We are available to work alongside you in your liaison with organisations such as the police, ACC, WINZ, the courts, medical professionals and more.
Support/information and advice
We provide support and information to survivors of rape and sexual abuse and to their families friends and whanau. We have resources and information available and a comprehensive library service. No appointments are necessary. Our drop-in support hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. We offer a confidential service to all including male survivors.
Education
We offer Abuse Prevention and Awareness Education Programs to empower individuals, community groups, other agencies, schools, churches, etc. Workshops can also be designed to meet specific needs. We also run recovery groups at the centre for women and teenage girls around sexual healing, sexual health and sexual violence.
Activities
Coffee mornings are held from 10.00am – 12.00pm each Thursday morning and we have day workshops on specific fun and helpful topics, call to check what is coming up.
